We played our first East Zone match on Thursday with Ngee Ann. It was a great fight throughout, showing how determined both teams were. It also showed how much a player was willing to help the team win, and how perservered they were. Ngee Ann was down by pretty much at the starting of the first quarter, which left us pretty confident about the game. Before the game, the constant emphasis on defence and rebounds was instilled into our minds. Everybody who watched were on their toes, as during the end of the 1st quarter, the score was drawed at 16-16. This lasted for awhile, before it became 18-18 and subsequently 20-20. Then slowly, we started to draw the scores apart, with NAS trying to catch up. I played for 4quarters which was later switched over during the last 20seconds of 3rd quarter and went on again during the fourth. It was very tiring and I thought I couldn't go on. My knees were hurting, too. Jing2 then told me to hang on, as this was the last quarter. I could see how determined the team wanted to win, and I felt I shouldn't let them down. I played the fourth quarter like it was the first, constantly psycho-ing myself and pushing myself further. As the buzzer marked the end of the last quarter, I breathed a sigh of relieve and as I approached my team mates, I smiled. I felt us having this teamwork together for the first time. The first time I felt how bonded we could be. Although it could have been better, I felt that this was a big step forward. We trusted in each other to put in the baskets, trusted in each other for great passes and many other things. After the game, Jian An told us in the gym room that he wasn't really satisfied with the rebounds and defence he had stressed on many times before the game, which really resulted in the hard time we had with NAS. Despite some unsatisfactory things, I'm still happy for the team that we managed to pull it through, as a TEAM. And that really matters a lot to me. 16pts for me, a refreshing start. Hopefully we'll do better in the next round(:
